After months of delays Nokia finally released the Nokia N8 this month.
Since then its been a waiting game for South-African customers to hear from the local cellular suppliers.
Luckily MTN will be selling it from the first week of November!
This morning I inquired about the prices for the N8 contracts and the sales assistant gave me a print out of the prices!
All above packages includes
- 75MB internet bundle
- Livetime Ovi Maps
- Lifetime Nokia messaging
- Car charger
- 6 months Ovi Music Unlimited
This means that the Nokia N8 will just be roughly R50 cheaper than the Apple iPhone 16GB on the free packages. Only difference is that on the iPhone you get a 150MB internet bundle. That’s 75MB more than their N8 deals and considering a 75MB cost R49 the phones are basically priced the same. But don’t forget that with the N8 you get the brilliant Ovi Maps application for free which use no internet while you drive compared to the iPhones Google Maps that gets its maps real time from the internet (and you can install Google Maps on the N8 too… if you want)

…and let’s also not forget the superior camera with Xenon flash, HDMI output, Dolby Stereo sound output, USB on-the-go, card slot to expand memory, FM Radio, FM transmitter etc etc etc on the N8.
And one should not be surprised that the phones are similarly priced considering they cost almost the same to manufacture.
Don’t forget that you also get nokia music free for 6 months , that means you can download all the music from their music store to play on your phone or pc. Given that the phone has a fm transmitter you can play the music in your car. I heard you can extend this to a year for something like R200.
